Strike A Pose! On The Red Carpet With “Pose” Star MJ Rodriguez

The category is: Red Carpet Realness! FX changed the landscape of television with the premiere of its groundbreaking Ryan Murphy drama, Pose, back in June 2018. The show made history by not only having the largest ever transgender cast in series-regular roles on television, but also tapping Janet Mock to be the first trans woman of color to direct and write an episode of TV. Part of Pose‘s success is due to a riveting performance by lead MJ Rodriguez.

The mother of the House of Evangelista was all smiles as she sashayed down the red carpet at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York Cityin a mint green long-sleeved gown. We spoke to the actress about the show’s second season and the importance of black and trans narratives, and how she finds power in living out loud.

“There’s also a two year time jump,” she said. “We’re tackling a lot of musical aspects of what happened in 1990 and how the peak of ‘Vogue’ came about within certain music.” We also talked about our love for the queen of pop herself, the one and only Madonna. “She changed a lot for us in the community with putting us on mainstream television.”

Her favorite Madonna moment? Her iconic dark look in “Frozen,” the first single from her iconic Ray Of Light.””It was everything!”
